The BMW M1 Procar Championship began in 1979 as a one-make series for the striking M1, attracting the world’s best drivers. At Donington Park, Nelson Piquet drove superbly to victory, marking one of his early successes on the international stage. The Brazilian, who would later become a three-time Formula 1 World Champion, mastered the powerful mid-engined M1 against fierce competition.
His winning car carried the iconic BMW Motorsport livery, instantly recognisable with its blue, purple and red stripes over white. This design became a hallmark of the Procar era and remains one of the most celebrated liveries in racing history.
